Jerry ... some people think water is merely for drinking and washing and .. well, using. Others however, know, that if we never touched it, there would still be an unfathomable value to it. Water is valuable for being what it is ... and that is a powerful thing. Very few things in life are that pervasively powerful and implacably important.

Those same people are the kind who would not 'get' the title. It is not important that it lead to the story - or tell the story. The story will do just that. And it does. But the title has a job very specific to the life of a book or story. The tile is mental Velcro. The title is what will keep the story clinging to our minds, our hearts, our souls, even when we forget the better parts of the story. Then like a shot of ether into the injection tube of a Double-AA fuel dragster (land or water) - when we see, hear or read that 'title name', we jump/leap/spring into the memory of what the story was and all the beauty of information; heart; feeling; meaning it brought into our lives.

Not one single title mentioned outside of the one used, has even the most remote connective 'ether boost' as the one chosen.

Those who question it, may well enjoy fully the content of the story. And that is good. But, that they question the validity of the title, reveals they never really 'got' the meaning. In very same way most who read the last line of Maclean's powerful novel .. never really get it either.

Thank you for sticking with the Velcro. Nothing else has its clinging power. After all, it is a mimic of nature. And ... well, you just cannot get any better than nature. Especially since it is a book about .. nature.

Bird On .. waterfall after waterfall.

Thanks, John. There's something to be said for starting over again -- and for stepping into the same river over and over. I'll be doing my heroic best to emulate Harrison at the Thanksgiving dinner table, but I fear I'm a bush-leaguer at best. -- Jerry

Thank you, Bob. You've given the title a fine endorsement and bolstered the author's confidence. I just wish I could be a little more intriguing, tantalizing, and mysterious myself.

Great title! Stick with it--the thing is intriguing, tantalizing, a bit mysterious, and as with all the best titles, it is an image that plants itself in the mind and asks to be followed.

Jerry - Lent out the copy of Windward Shore you signed in TC. Chewed and scribbled on and a friend now. Long gone also, due to the bad company I keep and a memory that is receeding more rapidly than polar ice. Starting over again. Like stepping in a once familiar river for the first time. Wonderful.

Thank you. John

Have a great Thanksgiving in the spirit of Harrison....overeating as an act of heroism.
