He smashed the usual idea of a &quot;New Yorker story&quot; -- then redefined our idea of stories in general. Much of his experimental work continues to delight and edify me but his most conventional story, &quot;Visitors,&quot; (in &quot;Overnight to Many Distant Cities&quot;) remains my favorite of his works and among my favorite of all short stories.]]></description>
